Bathroom Renovations that Reflect Your Style

If we went into 100 bathrooms we’d probably see that the majority are mostly white and grey. While it’s a beautiful and clean look that absolutely fits those with a modern-style and personality, does it “bring you joy,” as Marie Kondo would ask? Is it reflective of your personality? If you answer no… we have work to do.

Other than your bedroom, the bathroom is likely one of the first rooms you see in the morning and the last before bed. If it doesn’t bring you a sense of happiness or calmness, it’s time to consider a change. Look for inspiration within your home? What rooms do you gravitate toward; are there current themes and colours that inspired those rooms? Bringing that same feeling into your bathroom is one step toward creating a look that fits your personality and needs.

While we don’t feel that any colour is off limits, there are some general rules of thumb when adding a statement colour into a bathroom.

Size Matters in Bathroom Designs

Maybe you are looking to renovate a small first floor powder room, or perhaps your bathroom is large enough to hold a small gala dinner. Whatever the case, there are some general rules of thumb when it comes to bathroom design and colour.

Typically remember that light colours help a room feel open and airy, while darker colours add a sense of coziness and warmth. So, if your room is on the smaller side, consider a light colour such as a buttery yellow or a light blue. If you still want a dramatic pop of colour, look up. Your ceiling is a great palette for which to add drama. By adding a statement colour to your ceiling, you are drawing the eye up and making the room appear larger. If you want to add darker and more dramatic colours to a small room, make sure you have ample lighting…whether natural or added.

Alternatively, if you have a larger-than-life bathroom, consider adding some dark colours to the walls, such as navy, dark greys or even black. Plus, consider adding pops of colour in places such as an accent wall, coloured tiles and/or artwork.

Fabulous and Functional Bathroom Renovations

Regardless of the look of the room, your first rule of thumb is to ensure it is functional. Take stock of who is using the room, storage and overall flow. If a bathroom is too cluttered, it won’t matter how fabulous the paint scheme… it will just look disorganized and distract the eye.
